FEEDING:
Their diet mainly consists of insects. Like most insectivorous species, they can be fed with a variety of food groups such as roaches, dubia, lobster, crickets, mealworms, and silkworms. They can be fed 4-5 times a week.
TERRARIUM/LIVING SPACE:
A space of 604040 cm per individual is sufficient for a terrarium. It is beneficial to use a substrate that can be burrowed, preferably coconut fiber. The area can be decorated with hiding spots, low decorations for climbing, and artificial plants. A wide, shallow water bowl is also advisable.
VITAMINS/SUPPLEMENTS:
The provided food should be dusted with calcium powder, and a multivitamin should be given once a week.
LIGHTING/HEAT/HUMIDITY:
Fire skinks do not require much lighting; low-index UVB lights (3.0-2.0) can be used effectively. For heat, both a cold and a warm area are necessary: the cold area should be maintained at 24-25 degrees Celsius, while the warm area should be around 30-32 degrees Celsius. Heating can be provided with a low-wattage heating mat or bulb, ensuring that the environment does not dry out. Regarding humidity, they prefer moist environments; 60-70% humidity is ideal. Bioactive mixtures can be added to prevent mold and mite formation.
HANDLING:
They generally move quickly, so care should be taken to avoid dropping them. They do not exhibit aggression toward humans.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
They are beautifully colored creatures and are currently considered legal species. They are a pleasure to keep as pets.
